Nitrile rubber (also commonly referred to as buna-N rubber or perbunan), is a synthetic rubber copolymer of acrylonitrile (ACN) and butadiene. NBR seals with a medium ACN content (approximately 30-45%) are the most commonly used because of their balanced attributes (i.e, flexibility in low-temperature applications and better resistance to hydrocarbon oils).
The NBR family is most notable for its high resistance to oils, fuels, and other chemicals. It has a wide temperature range from -60°F to 300°F (-51°C to 149°C), but lacks the strength and flexibility of other materials.
